Creating an online business seems to be the way that most beginning business people are choosing to go with these days. There are many things to consider when trying to build your own online business. Probably one of the most important things to think about is a recognizable domain names. If you are going to try and bring in customers and make sales over the internet then you’ll want to have a domain name that they recognize, builds credibility and is memorable. Creating a domain is actually a very simple process – the more difficult part is coming up with a name that is available. You might also want to consider buying a good domain name from someone who owns it but is not really using it. You can use a whois search to help identify the domain’s owner and contact information if you can’t find it on their website.

It will happen at the worst possible time. It’s called “the blue screen of death”. It means that something very, very wrong has happened to your computer and your files are inaccessible. Sometimes you can get technical support, and sometimes it will cure the blue screen and get you back in business. But if there is no repair possible and you really need to keep going you do have options that can keep expenses down.

The first, and most expensive, option is buying a new computer. But there are several other cost effective ways to get a computer up and running asap. For one, you can rent or lease a comparable model. Rental agencies can supply a fully equipped computer at reasonable costs.

Online vendors and auction websites are very useful. You can find incredible bargains and many of these will guarantee and offer warranties on their sales. Think about a refurbished computer instead of a used one. Used computers might have issues, especially if you do a private sale. Prices are very low and usually online vendors have current models with operating software already installed. Be sure to check dealers customer satisfaction ratings and the Better Business Bureau’s website too. The “blue screen of death” isn’t always a bad thing when computer repair is not an option.

When you run a computer business, you can will receive a number of trade publications in the mail for free. If you business is listed in at least one phone book, you will eventually get calls from telemarketers offering a free subscription to numerous trade publications. The subscription to a trade magazine does not cost anything to you, although the company is offering the subscription is paying to have the telemarketers collect the data.

If you own a computer-related business and if you can afford to take a few minutes out of your day, you should take the survey these telemarketers offer. Reading the right trade publications lets you keep up on the latest trends and technologies for your industry. You can know about the latest and greatest Internet websites for your business and learn new strategies. Trade publications also offer trends with interview leaders in your field.

If you would rather not wait for a telemarketer to call your office, most trade publications have their own websites. If you are an information technology consulting firm, for example, you can peruse the pages of Infoworld about ways to reduce your costs, alternatives to using Cisco systems equipment. Computer Weekly can provide upgrades on hardware and advice on how to keep the systems up and running.

Starting on the path of entrepreneurship is very rewarding and exciting. However, if you’re making the transition from solopreneur to hiring your first employees, you’ll want to think hard about the questions you will ask. This is especially true if you are hiring technical support staff members. These team members will be on the front line of your business, solving problems for both you and your potential customers or clients.

You’ll want to start by asking the potential team member about their relevant education as technical support is an ever changing field. What solved tech problems yesterday is not the same today. Is this new to you? Catch up here If the candidate has no recent education, you may want to pass on him or her, as this ever changing field requires an up-to-date skill set. You will want to verify any education listed on the resume as well and not just accept what’s written as fact.

You will want to ask about relevant experience in the field. This means hands on tech support for other companies or clients. If a candidate has a vast array of experience, it will allow them to hit the ground running. This is key in the digital age, as you want to get a jump on your competitors right off the bat. Be sure to also gauge and ask about the customer service skills of your tech support candidates, as nothing turns a customer off more than a rude support team. Happy hiring!

In today’s job climate, there are many people in the midst of a new job search. This might give you some indication that larger companies are not always the most stable. In fact, it might be crossing your mind to look at joining a startup company. There are a number of advantages to doing so.For one, you’ll have a bigger stake in the company. Not only will your voice be heard more at a smaller company, but you may have an actual financial stake in the company that will encourage you to make the business the best it can be. This could lead into even bigger rewards if and when the company eventually takes off.Another reason to join is deceptively simple: the team aspect. At a startup, you’ll find yourself getting to know your teammates more than at a large corporation. This will make your work experience more rewarding, even if you don’t become best friends with everybody around you. The team aspect will also allow you more diversity, since everybody is responsible for the success of the company. You’ll find yourself doing jobs you never expected, and while this may be initially uncomfortable, ultimately it’ll be a fantastic learning experience.Working at a startup can also serve as a launching point for your career, whether it’s better jobs or even the ownership of your own company. If all these reasons have convinced you, then StartUp Hire should be your next stop. They offer the best and latest in job opportunities at a number of exciting companies. Whether you’re a sales agent or a web developer, or even a Chief Creative officer, you’ll find a spot in the wide world of startups, so start your search today.

When you make the decision to start your own company, one can assume that you’ve already gone through a long decision-making process and have strong reasons. Maybe you’ve been laid off and don’t want to commit to another company where you don’t call the shots. Or maybe you still have a job, but want to strike out on your own nonetheless. Whatever the case, you now have some more important decisions to make. There are a few tips to make it easier. Before you start, take a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test. This will give you a four-letter code for your personality. Some things you’ll learn are whether you’re extroverted or introverted and whether you make decisions based on logic or emotion. Another thing to consider about your personality is whether you have a knack for versatility, since heads of companies will have a lot on their plates. Even for a specialized IT company, this could include paying your employees and dealing with software compatibility issues. When starting the company, you will also want to think about the difference between vertical and horizontal markets. Since software is such a popular market now, companies like Microsoft already have an advantage when it comes to basic software like spreadsheet programs. They can offer it more cheaply, and everybody needs it. If you choose to focus on a program used only by a specialized profession, like doctors or dentists, you will find your job a lot easier. One of the most important decisions you will have to make, though, is what people to bring along with you. You will want to find people who take what they do so seriously that it’s a little scary. This will require you to decide what you’re really looking for in your employees, and what tests you can devise to filter them out from your applicants.

At the end of 2007, Wired made a list of companies to watch in the upcoming year. Despite the economic worries of the time, there were also many advantages, like Web 1.0 IPOs willing to help out, and the opportunity of attracting Google. Here are a few on that list that are still making waves.

Founded in 2004, BitTorrent, Inc.‘s technology was initially used by many for illegal file sharing. While companies crack down on that aspect of the technology, the company is focusing on the opportunity for easily transferring legal content. Their product is popular because it reduces bandwidth costs and can be added without any changes to hardware. In 2009, the company had grown to 20 employees and shows no signs of going anywhere.

Dash Navigation was a GPS navigation company which developed the Dash Express, a revolutionary GPS device which not only receives information, but transmits info on traffic and accidents back to the main servers. Last year, Dash was acquired by Research in Motion, and while support of the Express ended last month, it will be exciting to see what they come up with next.

LinkedIn was founded at the end of 2002 and in 2008 had 16 million users. Today, more than 70 million people use the site for business networking. Employers can put up job openings and easily search listings, while employees can personalize their profile to their hearts’ content. Other features, like LinkedIn Answers, improve the experience by allowing community discussion of important issues.

Spock was founded in 2006 as a search engine focused on people. The engine brings data together from networking sites like Facebook and Twitter as well as sites like Wikipedia and IMDB. In 2009, Spock partnered with Friendster to power their search engine, and was also acquired by Intelius.

Even when you make the decision to take your business plan out into the world, you don’t have to do it on your own. Yokum Taku at Startup Company Lawyer is there to help, and he has created a great site for would-be entrepreneurs. Taku is a corporate and securities partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he represents developing companies find private financing, public offers, and even acquisitions. In addition, he brings a great deal of knowledge to his site, including programming and debate team experience. The best place to start on the site is with the FAQs, where you can find more information about Yokum and his rates, as well as possible deferrals. From there, the Index is your guide to everything on the site (which is one of the best-looking WordPress accounts you will find). Some of the topics covered include when to incorporate (answer: it depends, but having more than one founder or starting to create intellectual property are some signs) and whether founders should buy stock in cash or intellectual property (answer: it depends, but there are a number of risks like precisely defining what is expected). It’s easy to spend a lot of time on the site, but it will definitely be worthwhile. The site has gained accolades from publications like Business Week and Venture Hacks. With an easy-to-use interface, and with Yokum regularly checking in on the comments to answer difficult questions, that’s hardly a surprise. He also recommends several books to take a look at, including Constance Bagley’s and Craig Dauchy’s Entrepreneur’s Guide to Business Law. Take a look at the site yourself, and make the decision as to whether you could use his assistance in developing your organization.

The idea of starting your own company while keeping the security of your existing one is definitely tempting. There are legal issues to consider, including non-competition agreements and the problem of hiring colleagues. However, there are ways to do it, especially if you talk with your boss and gain their assistance. Plus, working for a company offers the benefits of seeing what untapped markets exist.Using your salary as your startup is obviously one of the biggest benefits. It ensures your ownership in the company in the future and provides a secure foundation now. It’s easiest if you can show that your idea started before you joined the company, but if not, you still have options. For example, maybe your idea is coming from customer complaints you have encountered as part of your current job. If your boss is not interested in pursuing those features, there’s a great opportunity for you. Again, communication with your current company is important, but don’t feel the need to share everything. One unique opportunity that exists for entrepreneurs at a company is the chance to beta test with your employer’s resources. For example, David Bookspan developed a lead-generation system at his old law firm using the courthouse’s records. The chairman encouraged him to pursue it on its own, and Bookspan was able to test the software for the next year. The reputation of a company can also be an important resource, as can an official partnership with your company. Just discuss your plans with your boss, and be prepared for when you finally step out on your own. When you do, make sure you continue to strengthen these relationships, as well as building others. Also, make sure you have done the research to accurately know your market. This will make it easier to attract new clients, and keep the ones you have already developed.
